Exuma & Little Exuma
Once dotted with plantations reconstructed by the Loyalists who tried to
grow cotton as they had in the South, this island is now known as the Onion
Capital of the Bahamas. However, most know it for the annual spring Out
Islands Regatta where locally built wooden boats compete with one another in
this prestigious race. Great Exuma is connected to Little Exuma by bridge
and the entire area is ringed with some 365 little cays offering coves, bays
and harbors for exploring. It is also known for its numerous bone fishing
flats and local guides.
Access is via George Town airport (GGT) and car and boat rentals are
available.
